Since the start of 2023, I've been working with Sainsbury's magazine on a monthly column called "My Most Memorable Meal." The commission involves creating illustrations to accompany celebrities' stories about their unforgettable dining experiences. I look forward to some of the bizarre stories that I have to draw. At times, it can be pretty challenging - and I have to do a fair bit of research. Each story is unique, and has specific details about the food, the location, the era, and the people involved, so there is a lot to get wrong.
I try to capture the essence of these stories and describe the emotions that made the meal so memorable (I'll give you a clue: it's rarely just the food). Here are a few of my favorite illustrations from this project so far...
