My favourite projects always have four things;
the freedom to create something beautiful that demonstrates my skill set
great storytelling
a beautiful physical space; a lovely canvas for my art.
a brand that you can get behind
My latest commission nailed all four. It was a hand-painted window for Yard O Led, a heritage British brand best known for creating the world’s first propelling pencil back in 1934, and still hand-crafted today in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. This project was particularly exciting because it celebrates the opening of their first-ever standalone boutique in the beautiful Piccadilly Arcade, London.
The brief was twofold; to design a “coming soon” message to create anticipation for their boutique and to provide a privacy screen during the shop’s interior fit-out.
The design itself was inspired by their brand’s original posters, and showcases their product with an oversize fountain pen and retractable pencil. The high levels of detail and line-work made for a perfect privacy screen, but it also meant I had to have a VERY steady hand.
I love how this turned out.
